About
Luís Manuel Ribeiro de Mesquita has a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Polytechnic Institute of Bragança (IPB, 2000), Master of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering from Faculty of Engineering of The University of Porto (FEUP, 2004) and a PhD in Mechanical Engineering from FEUP (FEUP, 2015). Is an assistant professor at the Applied Mechanics Department of the IPB from 03/2001 to 07/2015 and is an Adjunct Professor since 08/2015 in the same department.
Actually his research work includes structural fire engineering, being a member of the research unit Institute for Sustainability and Innovation in Structural Engineering (ISISE). Both MSc and PhD thesis are related to the behaviour of structures in fire, namely, MSc: Thermo-mechanical instability of beams subjected to elevated temperatures. Numerical and experimental study; PhD: Experimental study and numerical behaviour of an intumescent material in passive protection of structural elements submitted to fire.
The current research topics are: Research on the behaviour of structural elements with fire protection (reactive and non-reactive materials). Thermal and mechanical characterization of fire protection materials to boost the Performance Based fire engineering Design (PBD). Research on Aging and Durability of fire protection materials and their influence on the fire protection. Prediction and assessment of material properties and structural behaviour after Long-term service.
In the last years was a research member from the following research projects related to the current proposal: Assessment of intumescent paint behaviour for passive protection of structural elements submitted to fire conditions, PTDC/Eme-Pme/64913/2006, (IPB), (UA), (INEGI/UP), supported by the Portuguese Science and Technology Foundation, from 2007 to 2010. High Performance Fire Control (HPFC) – Reference PO FC17/SI/2011 n º 24767: Project co-supported by the National Strategic Reference Framework (NSRF) and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). Partners: Barbot, IPB. From: October 2012 to December 2014.
From his research work is author/ co-author of 10 scientific papers published in National and international journals, 54 scientific papers published in international conferences and 36 scientific papers published in national conferences.
