Harvesting energy from Natural Gas pipelines, at Reduction and Measurement Cabins

• A short introduction about NG consumption in Italy and Portugal.
• Energy consumption and distribution, NG peculiarity (Pipeline and LNG).
•Comparison among NG and other fossil fuels (intensity) and the reason why we distributedin high-pressure pipelines.
•Physical Properties of NG: perfect gas or not perfect gas. (heating and preheating it before expanding the throttle valve).
•Harvesting possibility: almost everywhere there is a cabin for pressure reduction of large national pipelines to smaller local networks.

May’s STEP Talk will be given by guest Devia Francesco, from the University of Genoa. The event will be divided into two sessions, with the themes “Harvesting energy from Natural Gas pipelines, at Reduction and Measurement Cabins” and “Boundary conditions for fire in tunnels: CFD simulations”, and will take place in the Engº Alcínio Miguel Auditorium (ESTIG) at 14h30. It will also be possible to follow via Zoom and will be given in English.
